An employee removes a folder or years of correspondence. If the trash is emptied too, hosting will not bring it back.
Migration is where most email is lost; mailboxes are frequently transferred incompletely.
A late payment or quota breach closes the account and cuts off mailbox access with it.
If a leaver's mailbox is not backed up before it is closed, institutional memory goes with them.
When a server is encrypted, the mail store is encrypted too. Without an independent copy you are negotiating.

With encryption off, each message is stored as a universal .eml file, openable directly in Outlook or Thunderbird, so your backup does not depend on us. If you turn on optional AES-256 encryption, the archive is opened with the Yedekalma module or the WordPress plugin.
Restores add messages back over IMAP. Duplicate detection by Message-ID means no double entries appear.
With the optional incremental mode, each message is tracked by its IMAP UID, so only new messages are downloaded; a full backup still runs periodically.
Inbox, Sent and your own folders are backed up with their structure intact.
Messages carrying malicious attachments are always left out of the archive and reported in the panel, so a restore does not bring them back. Your mailbox itself is not scanned or changed.
Every backup reports how many messages were retrieved. A zero count is not passed over silently — it raises a warning.
Email backup works over IMAP. The PHP imap extension must be enabled on your server. If your mailbox is not reachable over IMAP — a POP3-only server, or one closed to external access — this component cannot run. In that case the backup does not quietly report success with nothing in it; you are told.
We never alter backed-up data: no masking, no truncation, no anonymisation. Your restored mail is exactly what was there when the backup ran — the only exception being messages with malicious attachments, which are left out and reported.
