Joomla Backup

Back Up Your Joomla Site Automatically
Files · Database · Email — One Module

Your Joomla content, users and extension settings live in the database, while templates and media sit on the filesystem. Yedekalma backs up both through a single PHP module placed in your site root. Nothing is installed in the Joomla administrator.

Specific to Joomla

What Do You Actually Lose on a Joomla Site?

Before choosing a backup plan you need to know where each kind of data lives.

📰

Articles and menus

Articles, categories and menu structure are database-only. Restoring template files does not bring content back.

👥

User groups

Joomla's detailed user group and access level configuration is stored in the database.

🧩

Extension configuration

Component, module and plugin settings live in the database; reinstalling does not restore them.

🖼

Media manager

Uploaded images and documents are on the filesystem and are not covered by a database dump.

🎨

Template overrides

Template customisations live on disk and can be lost during an upgrade.

🔗

SEF redirects

URL redirect records are database-stored; losing them directly affects your search results.

Setup

Joomla Backup in Four Steps

1️⃣

Download the module

Download the Yedekalma PHP Backup Module (.zip). Nothing is installed inside Joomla itself.

2️⃣

Upload to your web root

Unzip it and upload the yedekalma folder to your site root (proje/public_html/yedekalma) via FTP.

3️⃣

Connect the API token

Open yoursite.com/yedekalma/ in a browser and paste the API token generated in your panel.

4️⃣

Create a schedule

Pick frequency, components and storage target. Backups run automatically and restore in one click.

Highlights

What You Get with Joomla Backup

🔐

We never see your passwords

The module runs on your own server. Your database and FTP credentials are never sent to our panel.

☁️

Straight to your own cloud

Backups go directly to Google Drive, Amazon S3 and S3-compatible services, Dropbox, OneDrive, Yandex.Disk — or a Receiver Module on your own server. They never pass through us.

Incremental transfers

Only changed files, changed tables and new emails are transferred. How it works.

↩️

One-click restore

Restore from the panel. When moving to a different server, connection settings are rewritten for you.

🦠

Malware scanning

File, database and email backups are scanned for malicious content.

🔒

Immutable copies

S3 Object Lock keeps a copy nothing can delete. Learn more.

Technical requirements for Joomla

The module needs PHP 7.0 or newer — virtually every Joomla installation qualifies. On the database side MySQL and MariaDB are supported: Joomla runs on MySQL/MariaDB by default. Joomla installations running on PostgreSQL are not supported.

The module is installed as an independent folder in your web root. It does not touch Joomla core files and is not installed as a theme, plugin or extension — so Joomla updates never break your backups.

FAQ

Joomla Backup — Frequently Asked Questions

No. Nothing is installed in the Joomla administrator. The module is uploaded as an independent folder in your site root and is unaffected by Joomla version updates.
Yes. When restoring on the new server you can remap the target database, and the connection details in your configuration file are updated. See our website migration page for the complete process.
The database component supports MySQL and MariaDB only; PostgreSQL is not supported. In that case you can still use the file and email components and continue backing up the database with your own method.
Yes. Besides scheduled backups you can start a full manual backup at any time. This is recommended before a version upgrade, a template change or an extension update.
Yes. All your domains appear in one panel and each can have its own schedule and storage target. As your domain count grows an automatic volume discount is applied.
